Alabama here I come..

East Side Eye

It's an amazing place, these United States. Thinking back to the civil war that nearly tore this country apart, this wonderful landscape was named after the USS Alabama warship, most likely by confederate patriots that lived in the area at the time. Once a place used extensively by the movie industry to shoot early westerns, it’s now open for use to roam its maze of lumps of sandstone spires, arches and hollows. This place looms in the shadow of Mount Whitney, the tallest mountain in the continental Untied States. Today, Holly and I find ourselves searching out one of these lesser known formations which I dubbed the name "Whitney Eye". I'm sure it has many different names. I photographed it a while back facing Mt. Whitney to the west. But today, a late spring thunderstorm is offering a new perspective to the east. I'm using the same eye of the arch to frame this interesting late afternoon composition. Best Always,
